Richard VanGennip Obituary

Richard Alfred VanGennip, age 68, of Glennon, MO, passed away on February 3, 2026, at his home.  He was born on September 10, 1957, in Marble Hill, to Elmer and Eula (Steinnerd) VanGennip. He passed away after a 5-year battle with cancer.

Richard and Tammy Propst were united in marriage on June 1, 1985, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon, Missouri. Together they shared 40 years of marriage filled with countless miles traveled and a lifetime of memories made side by side.

Richard was a graduate of Leopold High School, Class of 1975. He began his career with Gerald Williams Masonry in Jackson, later working at West Lake Quarry in Scott City and at Bollinger Poultry Company in Patton. Richard went on to work for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), where he retired in 2024. In addition to his professional career, Richard spent many years helping his sister and brother-in-law with Brucker Auctions, a role he truly enjoyed. He also loved attending cattle sales.

He is survived by his wife: Tammy VanGennip; brothers: Michael (Dorothy) VanGennip, Lynn (Ruthy) VanGennip; sisters: Sharon (JC) Brucker, Dianne Holzum; brother-in-law: Randy (Cindy) Propst; sister-in-law: Tina Henderson; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Lacey aka “Dummy.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Glenwood and Edith Propst; brother-in-law: Melvin Holzum.

Services will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Rosary Service will begin at 12:30. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm, immediately following the Rosary. Burial will follow at the Patton Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris VanGennip, Brian Holzum, Chad VanGennip, Matt Brucker, Lance VanGennip and Kevin Holzum. Honorary Pallbearer will be long time friend, Alphonse Jansen.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Southeast Mo. Pets, Patton Community Cemetery or St. Anthony’s in Glennon.

The family and funeral home would like to encourage everyone to come for visitation before 12:00 pm. We will be seating everyone for the Rosary and a few special songs prior to the service.
